This year’s chaos is next year’s calm So stop waving your arms I’m caught between the devil and the part of me That can’t seem to let things be Don’t want to be Completely happy Happiness is to be content Don’t want to be Completely happy ‘Cause I’m not finished yet Keeps the wolf from the door Off the streets and out the bars Irons in the fire These are the rules as they stand Downfall of many a man No displays of affection No holding my hand Got a broken heart and a black eye Should’ve seen the other guy Got a perfect wish and a new disguise Praying for some peace of mind Wrong side of the line Demons knowing at my heart While you max out my bank cards Yeah, you’ll find me at the bar I’ll be working on my art Hit the nail right between the eyes Bullseye, bullseye I may be drunk but I feel alive
2.
Woke in a bed of angels So sorry I couldn’t stay Wish I could cure the heartache Comes every time I’m away Still there’s no sign of danger No trouble down the line Only clear horizons And the future’s yours and mine In trying times If you don’t laugh you cry And I don’t want to cry all the time Bring on the laughter lines We belong together And will be again All these hard moments Are ours to transcend Even when we’re scattered We still connect Geography’s irrelevant Amazing how far heartstrings stretch I’ll keep my powder dry You never know when it will ignite Working on the alibis I can be the best for both of us Caught up in euphoric wanderlust Happy and sad and ups and downs and ins and outs But never in doubt We’re never in doubt
3.
For me this will be indiscrete All the places I cannot reach For you this will turn your grey skies blue Falling into love too soon For us this will rehearse Finding out who’s blessed or cursed All that cannot be will be All that could’ve been has been And I’ve seen the future Sleep comes to me All thoughts have ceased, insomnia relief Steeped in mystery Colour bars on my TV stay ‘til the colours bleed Speak, speak to me About ecstasy, fantasy, you and me Light a candle don’t curse the darkness We are here because of us Breathing’s easy but living’s hard now We’ll find our place in all of this In the long run we’ll go for distance We are here because of us Take the long road not the short cut We’ll find out who’s blessed or cursed
4.
Incomplete 06:27
Teenage rebellion A chance for the weak Don’t make those eyes at me I’m white as a sheet Look in the mirror It stares back at me You look so familiar A facsimile Breathe with me We’re incomplete Hold your tongue and take a seat Both ends burning What do I do when they meet? Gallows humour Has been haunting me A death in the family A black comedy Life’s got so morbid It takes it from me A stop/start revolution But never retreat Eaten alive at 25 Lacking the brains, brawn and guile Made it out past 35 A little more attitude, a little more drive Trying to be gentle Hoping to be wise Heart on my sleeve And tongue in my cheek Foot in my mouth But out of reach Making my best Seem obsolete But keep on trying to achieve Impossibility Breathe with me We’ll never be complete
5.
Get off your high horse Come to terms with this divorce Get off your soap box Put your judgement in the dark Turn around start heading south Get off your gift horse and stare him in the mouth I’ll split the world in two And see what comes out One for me One for you And your gift horse mouth Built up to be a cut above The stars who think they’re Lazarus Put each emotion in a box And label them up Large one is jealousy Small one is ecstasy
6.
Brave Face 04:46
Follow the pylons past the canal Up through the smokestacks and on to the town Don’t take the railway Forget how to drive Plough on through the brick wall Prove you’re alive, prove you’re alive Plough on through the brick wall Follow the pylons Forget how to drive Face the rising tide Re-arranging energies All my eccentricities Passing through me Re-arranging all you see Collide and break free Collide and break free From all the misery Welcome to the episode Beautiful lie verses ugly truth Put on a front, put on a brave face Facing the bad news On and on the water’s rising Hard to hold your breath Ten storey tent pole high rises Flying from the nest Give me a moment to make amends To take all the credit and lose all movement I’m wired and willing and wired to the mains Re-set and start again
7.
In The Wars 04:58
In a room, in a house, on a hill, in a field Tell me how you feel Should’ve hidden it from me Should’ve hidden it from me In a car on a drive on the passenger side Feeling alive In an urban nightmare It’s coming after you In the legal loophole That’s become a noose In divorce proceedings They’re all singing out In an urban nightmare It’s coming after you In the legal loophole That’s become a noose In divorce proceedings There’s no excuse We’re in the wars and on the loose Make your mark, make your life, make sure everything is fine It’s getting harder to achieve It’s getting harder to breathe In your eyes, in your dreams Now it’s hard to believe How it crept up on me Makeshift with twice the gift For endurance, we’ll live through this Makeshift, watch the darkness lift Clear the precipice, clear the parapet Makeshift but infinite We’ve come this far so don’t let it slip Makeshift, not ignorance but bliss Make amends for all of this See it to the end See it to the end In the wars but always on the mend Make this misery dissipate It’s a passion that’s so bittersweet In closing proceedings, we’ll execute In the wars and on the loose
8.
Spring Fever 03:58
Watching the rain from my window Howling the blues in the falling snow Kick up a storm in the afterglow Head rush and blood flow Waltz to the sound of spring fever Something’s changing Something in the air Her angel sigh voice makes a beautiful noise Growing roots in the soil Striking gold and oil Fortune’s smiling on me It’s all I need to succeed Forget about the baggage and set us free Bring on the angel sigh

about

Moshing Bug Music are proud to present JunkBond's debut album 'Spring The Locks'!

Written over the course of 25 years and recorded in the last two, this is a collection of Sheffield musician Simon Roberts' song orphans that never quite made it into the previous bands/projects (The Letter/The Farewell State) but always remained close to his heart and when Covid-19 presented an opportunity to get them down on tape he worked with long-time friend and producer Tom Henthorn (New Ghost/Jube) through two lockdowns to get the album ready. These eight songs show depth and variety showcasing Simon's song writing talent in full. From space rock ballads through power pop to country-tinged folk to live rock exorcisms, this set has it all.

'Spring The Locks' is out on 28th January 2022 via Bandcamp and all digital platforms. JunkBond hope to continue to play these special songs at special shows throughout 2022 and beyond...
